Dear Mitt;

I have a great deal of admiration for your family and for your dad. When Brigham Young’s racist doctrine was popular in the church your father dared take part in the civil rights struggle. While some Latter-Day Saints were telling their racist friends “You ought to join the Mormon Church because we know how to keep the blacks in their place.”, your father was marching for civil rights. When I faced the influence of polygamists and racists in the church, I ended up leaving for twenty five years. While racists and polygamists have been driven under ground, the influence of those who long for polygamy is alive and well. Now that I’m back, those who long for polygamy have done their best to make me feel unwelcome. Knowing that these are still the days when the wheat and tares are to grow together I am not attempting to drive them out of the church, merely to stick up for my right to believe the Book of Mormon’s case against polygamy.

REPENT OR SUFFER

May 1st, 2017

Jesus was crucified for the sins of the world. Those who repent, are baptized, and are spiritually reborn by the sanctifying influence of the Holy Ghost become joint heirs with Jesus Christ whose crucifixion pays for their sins. The Savior’s death resulting from his crucifixion was the penalty humankind brought upon themselves because of their sinful natures. Those who have claim on the Savior’s mercy can inherit the celestial or terrestrial kingdoms. D&C sections 76 and 88 explain it.

According to D&C 19:16 -18 those who will not repent must suffer even as Jesus suffered in Gethsemane when blood dripped from every pore. They suffer for their own sins, but they do not atone for their own sins.

THE BURNING BOSOM VS FALSE PRIDE

February 23rd, 2017

After being active in the church for twenty years, I left the church for twenty five years. I came back about ten years ago. About two or three years ago in an October conference, President Ochtdorf said something like, “There are those who think that when someone leaves the church it’s because their feelings were hurt and they cannot forgive or they are guilty of serious sin, but it isn’t that simple. Sometimes people or leaders make mistakes.”

AN OPEN LETTER TO MY GRANDCHILDREN

December 4th, 2016

Because America’s social structure has been fundamentally changed in ways which threatens our constitutionally guaranteed freedom and the American family, I feel the need to impress upon my grandchildren some fundamental facts of life. A basic truth promoted by the scriptures and observable in human behavior is the fact that the natural man [humankind] is an enemy to God. Let me assure you that if it were not for the Lord’s influence in my life with the help of my parent’s examples, the Baptist Church and then the Latter-Day Saints, I would not have honored my wedding vows; I would have fathered children by women I was not married to. The tendency to stray from the straight and narrow path varies from person to person and I know where those tendencies would have led me.
