When I was in grade school in the late forties, I would catch honey bees by the wings as they gathered nectar. Once I had removed their stingers I would toss them down the blouses of unsuspecting girls. The corporal punishment I received gave me a new sense of direction. Punishment received in school usually brought additional punishment at home.
Although children back then (as always) had their own little worlds and concerns to deal with, our institutions, the media, and our parents (in most cases), stuck together in promoting the innocence of children. Back then we knew that grownups were in charge of things. Today, the lack of supervision and discipline in overly crowded schools places serious doubts on that. The evolutionist theories that I read suggest that social progress has occurred in the human species because of the prolonged parental care given our offspring when compared to animals whose young mature more quickly. Perhaps that’s why discipline was taken out of the classroom as reformers decried corporal punishment and turned our schools over to the influence of gangs and rowdy individuals. The punishment allowed in our public schools is only feared by serious students. That gives the rowdy ones a double advantage. It leaves those who are not serious about getting an education unafraid of trouble and those who are serious, afraid to stand up to the trouble makers for fear of hurting their own scholastic standing. It greatly diminishes the influence of parents and our institutions. The situation steals individuality and self confidence from serious students and turns them into a fearful herd while the strongest and the bad kids grow more confident and independent at an earlier age. Shouldn’t we suspect that the liberal effort to reduce parental influence on children is just an effort to turn some of them into predators, some into mindless dependent herds obsessed with sex, and the rest into blind advocates of liberal causes?
Liberalism is attempting to change the course of the evolution of human society. I’m suggesting that the liberal anticapitalist message encourages a “drop out and take a handout” mentality for the discouraged. Liberalism’s social issues create a fearful herd expecting government tax and spend policies to solve every problem. Liberalism’s radical extremist environmental issues place the highly motivated in danger of becoming “Unibombers”. The success of liberalism’s attack on family values gives credibility to separatists and to terrorists who call us an evil nation. The ugliness and brutality of “partial birth abortion” incites the bombing of abortion clinics. Liberalism’s push to change the course of our social evolution has made of it a much greater threat to human society than simple lust for wealth and power. Liberalism is doubly dangerous because it takes advantage of all of mans best and worst attributes in its attack on the American way of life.
